Production Diary
 10/11/15
Day 1 10/11/15: On the first day we were assigned our groups and had a short introduction session, telling each other a brief overview of ourselves and the ideas that we had for our movies. We all introduced an idea separately and then discussed what we thought was good and bad about all the ideas and started to consider which one we would pick. We came down too two separate ideas but where then stuck as of which one too chose as we all thought that the ideas were both good. At the end o the lesson, we left considering a movie and keeping one o the ideas as a back-up.

Day 2 11/11/15: Continuing on from the first day, we started taking bigger considerations for the first idea 'Life' and planning out what would happen in the movie while creating the film pitch presentation. However, we began running into problems with the idea and so took the initiative of presenting the pitches in front of a critical audience to have them decide whether or not the back-up idea 'MiddleMan' was as good or better than the 'Life' idea. We began creating alternate presentations for the ideas in preparation for presenting them.

Day 3 12/11/15:On Day 3, we presented the separate ideas and had the audience vote on the what they thought would be the better of the two to watch. The audience decided that 'MiddleMan' had the better enigma created and was also a more original idea. As a group, we then decided that we would use the back-up instead.

Day 4 13/11/15: We began by planning out the basics of the opening scene and plotting what would happen in it. We also began planning out actors that would play roles in the opening scene, considering what kind of audience we were targeting and how to make the scene look natural in the normal world.

Day 5 16/11/15: We finished the basis for the storyboard while continuing on from the previous session. We had to overcome the issue of ending it without making it seem like a trailer however we believe that we have overcome this efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, we forward planned for our roles, deciding who was going to do what role and beginning our designated tasks. We also began creating the moodboard.

Day 6 17/11/15: On this day, we began to create the script for the opening scene, using the storyboard that we created as an influence for the timings and the actions that he would do. We also finished our target audience so that we had a good idea of who to appeal to with our marketing and script and choose what would fit well and what we could add as extras to the opening scene to further enhance the experience for that audience. The moodboard was also enhanced and improved further by fleshing out various key aspects like character, scenes, settings, films. We also began exploring the representations present in the opening scene including the fact that the general working man was stereotyped as the main character.

Day 7 18/11/15: On Day 7, we recorded our storyboard and began the editing process to piece it together. We also created our risk assessment, covering what could happen during filming. Costume and make-up design was also covered on this day as we planned out what the main character and extras would wear. We also began research for the location of shooting. The prop list was also completed stating items we would need and online stores that we can purchase them from.

Day 8 20/11/15: We began researching music ideas on this day to attempt to find the right music for both the main character to listen to and too play in the background. Furthermore we re-recorded our storyboard due to an issue with a member not being present who had the previous audio clips. The conventions, genre and audience were also linked to the opening scene and analysed how they fit together.

Day 9 23/11/15: Today we checked over the script for the opening scene and created the 'dialogue' scene for the main character as well as starting the movie's poster design for the marketing campaign. Furthermore we also continued the music research for the opening scene.

Day 10 24/11/15: On this day we evaluated our storyboard and also tested shots for actual filming as too train ourselves in different techniques and to see what worked and what didn't. Furthermore we also continued editing together our recorded storyboard against the images and completed it on this day.

Day 11 25/11/15: We began filming on this day and were able to get many shots required for including the titles. Many of the shots we got were 'filler' shots and will most likely not be used in the final cut of the opening scene. We did this to make sure that we had plenty of good shots for the opening scene and that we could pick and choose during the editing process. Furthermore we also did the interviews for use on the website that we also began to create for the marketing campaign.

Day 12 26/11/15: On day 12, we began the editing process for the shots that we collected, attempting to link them together in a correlated style that made sense. We also began adding the titles into the shots we had. The movie poster was also enhanced, using the actual actor as the main focus of it to make it more realistic to an actual movie poster.

Day 13 27/11/15: Today we rethought our project and changed our plan, scrapping our original footage and decided to re-film everything using a different actor but very similar storyboard and basic layout of what happens in the opening scene. We began planning out what would happen in the new opening scene on this day as well.

Day 14 30/11/15: We continued planning out the shot list and locations on this day as well as discussing the extra changes that had to be made to make the opening scene filming work and that the day of filming would run smoothly and that we could gain all the shots we needed so that we did not have to return when conditions were not similar or optimal.

Day 15 1/12/15: On this day, we filmed our 2nd draft of the opening scene, spending the entire day collecting footage for the editing process to attempt to create a better opening scene than the first draft. Once we were finished we then correlated our footage together and decided what footage to use and what to scrap.

Day 16 2/12/15: Today we began the editing process with the footage we had decided to use and put it into the editing software. We cut and cropped footage together to make the footage look more like an actual opening scene and also added in titles to some of the shots although it was mostly experimentation at this point. We also began writing the script for the internal monologue scene.

Day 17 4/12/15: We recorded and added in the internal monologue into the first draft today to complete the edit for the first draft. We also continued adding titles on this day, experimenting with different effects to have them come in. We also began updating the 'paperwork' of the project to make it fit the change in the movie idea.

Day 18 7/12/15: Today, we provided, and were provided responses from our peers to assist us in creating our movie and how to improve it later on.

Day 19 8/12/15: We continued providing feedback today and continued the editing process to respond to the recommendations given so far by the feedback provided. Some members also continued providing helpful assistance to other groups.

Day 20 9/12/15: In continued response to feedback, on this day we filmed once again in an attempt to get more 'filler' footage as well as more close-up shots to make the opening scene better and shorten scenes by splitting it up. This went well as we were able to collect all the footage that we wanted to get. We then uploaded the footage and began editing the footage into the 2nd draft.

Day 21 10/12/15: On this day we continued the editing process of the opening scene, adding in the new footage to the older footage.

Day 22 11/12/15: Work continued on the editing process on this day, with a focus being placed upon the audio aspects. We attempted to smooth out the audio transitions throughout the opening scene to make sure that it did not ruin the immersion of the audience.

Day 23 14/12/15: We spent this day smoothing out the opening scene, attempting to remove any defects from the movie and trying to get it to as close to perfection as possible. We then uploaded the movie to be ready to be viewed.

Day 24 15/12/15: After finishing our editing, we continued to update the paperwork related to the opening scene to make sure that the opening scene was supported and evidence was shown of our work to complete it.

Day 25 16/12/15: On this day, we continued to update the paperwork related to the movie as well as provide peer assessment to each other about our individual blogs.
